Do some car models increase your DUI risk?

Mar 10, 2022 | Uncategorized

In California, it is unlawful for most motorists to drive with blood alcohol concentrations above 0.08%. If your BAC is over this legal limit, you may see flashing lights in your rearview mirror. You can also expect an officer to ask you to breathe into a testing device or to participate in a roadside sobriety test.

While your driving behaviors and the condition of your vehicle may give officers grounds to stop you, you may have another thing to worry about. That is, the model of your car, truck or SUV may put you at greater risk of a DUI stop.

Cars with the most DUI stops

According to Insurify, drivers of certain vehicles are more likely to have previous DUI citations than drivers of other types. Owners of the following five vehicles have more DUIs than the national average:

  • Dodge Ram 2500
  • Subaru WRX
  • Chevrolet S truck
  • Audi A4
  • GMC Sonoma

A clear leader

Even though drivers of the above five vehicles have considerably more DUI citations than the national average, drivers of Dodge Ram 2500 pickups are the clear leaders. In fact, approximately 5% of all Ram 2500 drivers have DUI citations on their records. Additionally, Ram 2500 trucks are more likely to be in DUI-associated accidents than any other car, truck or SUV on the road currently.

If you drive a Dodge Ram 2500 or any other vehicle on Insurify’s list, you may have an increased risk of a DUI stop. Ultimately, if you are facing DUI charges, it is advisable to carefully weigh all your defense options.
